Chrome Painting
is called today as chrome. It is a technique in painting wherein a slim layer
of chrome paint is applied in
the plastic or metal object such as for

History of Chrome Painting

plating was accidentally discovered by Thomas Boulsover during 1743 when the
silver was overheated and melted. The mixture of copper and silver was called
the Sheffield plate. He found out that the combination was sturdy, and it
remained in one composition when he was trying to form it. The Sheffield plate was

technique.

Corp.

avoid the increasing overhead cost, Mr. Pratt withdrew from the company last
December of 1926. Mr. Pratt died a few months after.
The Year 1927 of Chrome Painting Up to the Age of Modern Electroplating
One of the
pioneers of the commercial manufacturing of chrome painting left the original company to work with a new firm
in Detroit called General Chromium Corporation. During that time, a man named
Philip P. Hale was working as a supervisor, and after just a few years, he was
promoted as the VP of Nicholl Chromium Comp. Inc and only a few months later,
this will be renamed to Nicholl-Hale Chrome Service. During the same time,
someone exerts much effort to incorporate his engineering methodologies in
their procedure in the original company.
Electroplating of Marvin Udy
Marvin J. Udy studied
electroplating, wherein the right amount of current should be applied to the
surface area. Udy is proud of his discovery that chrome painting should be executed with at least 4.2 volts. This
claim by Udy has prompted a heated discussion among the board members, but they
were unable to discourage Mr. Udy. Udy will then create a partnership with Hale
to create a composite bus bar. This painting process will allow the objects to be
plated and attached to the cathode bar and the lead on the anode bar. The
entire paint process will run a
single electric current density. In 1931, Udy was terminated and never continued
in his job. Hale will then apply for a patent on the
discovery of Udy. The discovery of Udy was upgraded by his successor named
Clarence Peger.
In the year 1940, Chrome painting will get an interesting
turn. The test called Dubpernell Test has been badly depicted in the pages of
the history book due to its secret origin. In this test, they will apply a
skinny layer of copper on the Chrome paint, and they will look at the level of
porosity of the object and signs of cracking. The project will be later

train ride. This has led to the year of the Modern Electro Plating.

After the 2nd
World War, the government of France launched a center of study that focused on
Hard Chromium. Mr. Morisset led this center and was kept in operation for
around 32 years. In 1948, Mr. Morisset published a book with 220 pages that

chromium. In 1952, he again launched a new book solely about chrome paint.
Though the
textbook is mostly in French, it was translated into English. This guideline
was referred to as the "bible" of any chrome paint job. The guidebooks by Morisset were also translated
into the Japanese and Russian languages. The book was followed by a more
comprehensive text on chrome painting
innovation last 1961, but the textbook was not translated. Another book on painting chrome was released in 1974
and translated into English in 1980.
